Midsummer

Photographer Olev Mihkelmaa Photo by Mait JüriadoAll the northern nations celebrate Midsummer. Midsummer is as important as Christmas for Estonians. The sun sets only for a few hours, it doesn’t go dark during the night. The sunlight is very important for Estonians because soon the days are getting shorter again and the long dark autumn arrives. You must absorb lots of sun during the summer inside yourself to survive the long, foggy and dark winter.
