Surprise survey: Half of all Poles do not know where Lithuania is

Poland_LithuaniaEven though about 70 per cent of all Lithuanians and Poles surprisingly want the two countries to cooperate and seek compromise, a survey created by the Polish Public Affairs Institute along with Professor Bronisław Geremek’s fund also revealed that almost half of all Poles do not know where Lithuania is.

“It is hard to believe this, seeing crowds of Polish tourists in Vilnius that up to 90 per cent of all Poles have never been to Lithuania and only 58 per cent could pinpoint it on the map.” cited daily paper Gazeta Wyborcza.

The newspaper further underlined that despite the tensions between Vilnius and Warsaw, half of both Poles and Lithuanians feel neither sympathy, nor antipathy to one another. While 44 per cent of Poles are positively inclined toward Lithuanians, only every fourth Lithuanian would say the same about Poles.
