African swine fever continues to spread in Baltic States and Poland

Latvian Food and Veterinary Service has received laboratory test results that confirm the presence of African swine fever in two wild boars that were shot in Ludza Parish and Cirma Parish, as well as one dead wild boar that was found in Ērģeme Parish.

Also, the presence of the virus was uncovered in two dead wild boars in Madona last week, as reported by FVS.

At the beginning of this week, FVS received information that the virus has been confirmed in a domestic pig in Poland, some 13 km away from the border with Belarus.

FVS has also received information that the virus has been found in a wild boar in Ignalina, Lithuania. The immediate area around the infected region has been quarantined.

FVS urges farmers to scout their fields for any dead wild boars or signs that they had been there prior to harvesting crops. This especially applies to farmers who grow pees, potatoes and corn.

If farmers find anything resembling a dead carcass, they should immediately contact FVS via the hotline or come over to the nearest FVS branch.
