In April, 1,745 newborns were registered in Latvia, this year - 6,813 in total, which is 283 newborns more than last year, according to data from the Central Statistics Bureau (CSB).
During the past three years, the birthrate has kept climbing, as the deputy director of CSB Social Statistics Department, Baiba Zukula, says.
Meanwhile, the natural growth in Latvia remains negative, and the number of deaths exceeds the number of births, reducing the population by 2,971. Compared to the first four months in 2013, the population reduced by 4,440.
9,784 deaths were registered in the first four months this year, which is 1,186 deaths less than in the first four months in 2013. In April, 2,371 deaths were registered.
CSB data indicates that the number of marriages keeps growing in Latvia. During the first four months, 2,134 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 206 marriages more than in the first four months in 2013. In April, 632 marriages were registered, which 46 more than last year.
