Lithuania is second only to Latvia in extent of cigarette smuggling in EU

Lithuania is a transit country and its role is significant when solving the issue of illegal tobacco product trade in the whole Europe.

“In Lithuania the number of consumed illegal cigarettes is considerably higher than the EU average. Every third cigarette smoked in Lithuania is smuggled. Furthermore, Lithuania is second only to Latvia in extent of cigarette smuggling,” said one of the authors of the research Professor Francesco Calderoni.
