Two in five schools in Sweden use commercial cloud services to store data online, despite that the Data Inspection Board says it puts their students’ privacy at risk.
According to Swedish Television, SVT, as many as 123 of the country’s municipalities use Google’s cloud service Google Apps for Education to send emails and store documents. The service lets students save their documents on Google’s servers instead of on their personal hard drives so that they can access the files anywhere as long as they’re connected to the internet.
The Swedish Data Inspection Board has previously urged two schools to stop using the service and claims that Google does not do enough to protect the data on their servers and that the company gains access to a lot of private information, including personal social security numbers.
