One more UK “Typhoon” fighter to join Baltic air policing mission

Typhoon fighterGreat Britain has decided to send one more “Typhoon” fighter to the Baltic countries in order to increase NATO presence in the region, LETA learned from the Defense Ministry.

British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond told the British Parliament on Monday that Great Britain would send one “Typhoon” fighter to Lithuania in April that would participate in the Baltic air policing mission.

The British fighter will supplement a Polish contingent that will be patrolling Baltic air space from April. Britain’s decision to increase NATO military presence in the Baltic countries confirms NATO’s close cooperation with Latvia and the Baltic region, said Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis (Greens/Farmers).

As reported, earlier this month the United States sent six additional F-15C “Eagle” fighter jets to step up NATO’s air patrol over the Baltic countries.
