Polish cities ripe for investment, ranking shows

investmentFive Polish cities are among Eastern Europe’s top investment magnets, a foreign direct investment (FDI) ranking shows.

The latest report, “European Cities and Regions of the Future” just released by the division of Financial Times Ltd. specialising in observing foreign direct investment trends, has placed Wroclaw, Poznan, Katowice, Lodz and Krakow among the region’s high-fliers.

The ranking covers over 250 European cities and compares them under six different categories, including economic potential, quality of life and business friendliness. The findings show that Wroclaw, southwest Poland, and Katowice, in the the industrialised Upper Silesia region, are the three largest recipients of foreign direct investment projects in the eastern parts of Europe, preceded by Budapest, Hungary. Wroclaw, Katowice and central Poznan are also the highest-ranking cities in the report’s FDI promotion strategy rating in Eastern Europe, followed by Ostrava, Czech Republic, and another Polish municipality, Lodz.

Meanwhile, Warsaw scored strongly among major European cities in the cost-effectiveness category, while Lodz, Krakow, Poznan and Wroclaw closed the list of the top ten large cities in the same category, with the Latvian capital, Riga, topping the list.

The Polish capital was also ranked by the independent judging panel as the sixth most business friendly metropolis in Europe.
