Member of the Lithuanian parliament, Kęstutis Masiulis has urged the State Security Department, SSD to suspend publications Russian Litovskij kurjer, Obzor, Ekspress nedelia, and Pervyj Baltijskij kanal for disseminating Russian propaganda, according to a Baltic Course report quoting ELTA news agency.
“The SSD knows that the Kremlin’s propaganda is being transmitted through these publications. If we know the sources of the threats, we have to eliminate them. These publications must either stop spreading the ideology of Russian President Vladimir Putin or face suspension. This propaganda cannot be allowed as an alternative and equal opinion because it is based on lies,” said Masiulis.
The SSD in its report stated that “Russian language Litovskij kurjer, Obzor, Ekspress nedelia, and Pervyj Baltijskij kanal are among the Kremlin’s mass media tools for influencing ideological policy and managing perceptions.”
“I am happy that the SSD informed the society about these threats but it is not enough. We need to take measures to keep our state strong and safe. As we are learning from the events in Ukraine – if a country is not able to defend itself, its existence is very fragile,” said Masiulis.
