The Canadian mining company “Ginguro Exploration Inc.” and the government of Latvia have signed a letter of intent on exploration for natural resource in Kurzeme Province that may pave the way for the development of mining industry in Latvia.
“Ginguro” has been collaborating with local scientists since 2011 and hopes to find various ore deposits in Latvia - copper, nickel and platinum group metals. The company notes that, if such deposits are found, the area - thanks to Latvia’s favorable geographical location and developed logistics infrastructure - could become an ideal place for the development of modern and environment-friendly mining industry.
According to the Economy Ministry, exploration for ore must be in the interest of the state and residents, as well as in line with the environmental protection requirements. That is why the Latvian government has set up a task force to start work on the necessary regulations and on defining Latvia’s interests in the area.
