“Colour me, Helsinki”

EsinI was just talking with my future boyfriend about how I am annoyed about wind in Helsinki. As I lived past 1,5 years in Berlin, I forgot what it is to live in a city surrounded by sea. It’s all the time me against the wind. Hair is messy all the time, skin is dry, put some lip-balm on your lips and wind will blow some street dust on your lips. Dust on lips can be actually good for peeling your lips, but if the dust is from the ground. Yes that sand with all the nice minerals from the cars, dog pee, vomit, toxic in it.

And cycling with single speed bicycle in this wind. NO FUN.

And don’t get me wrong, I love our sea, but that wind…!

Cycling is very important hobby for me. Or let’s say it’s a lifestyle. Also it’s my cure for depression. And wind in Finland is trying to ruin it. But then the day came when I found a new way to cure that so-called-depression (which is actually only furstration in my case but let’s be dramatic ;)). A new medicine is Helsinki. What, wait? Yes. There’s a saying in Finnish ”It leaves with what you have go it”.

Before I was thinking Helsinki is too small city for me and as I had this in my head so strongly, there wasn’t any other options. Since I returned from Berlin, I have started looking at Helsinki from totally new angle. I see the charisma in this little city. I see looot’s of reflections. And the people, especially in Kallio where I just moved – nailed it!

So, even though I can’t cycle as much I am used to, I walk from place to another. And everytime I see something interesting, I take a photo. Before I didn’t see these things, now I have strated spotting small moments in here.

Maybe it was also because I was cycling. When you cycle you go fast – you go past many moments. When you walk, life goes slower. And you see.

When it’s not windy, I will cycle long distance so that my beloved hobby won’t vanish from my life.”
