Finland inches up in competitiveness ranking; still weak among Nordics

competitiveness_onpageFinland moved up two spots in the annual competitiveness report compiled by the Swiss global business school IMD to reach 18th position in the 2014 ranking. In spite of the slight improvement Finland placed well behind all but one of its Nordic neighbours.

weden outperformed other European countries in the 2014 competitiveness ranking placing 5th. Other European countries in the top ten include Denmark in 9th place, Germany in 6th place and Norway in 10th place. Only Iceland lagged behind Finland in the Nordics, moving up to 25th place from 29 last year.

Topping the ranking once more was the United States, while Switzerland also retained its second-place position behind the US.  The bottom five countries in the index were Bulgaria, Greece, Argentina, Croatia and Venezuela.

The World Competitiveness Yearbook Ranking assessed 60 countries this year and also looked at perceptions of each country as a good place to do business.

According to IMD the overall results of the 2014 competitiveness index revealed a picture of “continued success for the US, partial recovery in Europe and struggles for some large emerging markets.”
