Lithuania will ensure gas supply for Russia’s exclave of Kaliningrad

gasLithuania will ensure reliable supply of gas to Russia’s Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad, Lithuanian Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovič has said in response to reports that Russia’s gas concern Gazprom has decided to sell its interest in two Lithuanian gas companies, Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas) and Amber Grid.

«We hope that Gazprom will remain a reliable partner for Lithuania’s gas companies and will maintain the relations based on commercial principles even after the withdrawal from the companies’ management. In its turn, Lithuania, which will take over the management and control of infrastructure, will ensure reliable transit of gas to Kaliningrad and will be open to the development of mutually advantageous gas projects with partners from Russia,» Jaroslav Neverovič said on June 12……….

………Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius thinks that Gazprom’s decision is beneficial to Lithuania and will have no impact on natural gas prices in the future.

«Amber Grid is a strategic company, and having the company’s shares in [the state's] hands makes the implementation of the EU Third Energy Package easier. Speaking about Lietuvos Dujos shares, this will have no impact on the gas price, because the contract that sets the current price is in effect until the end of 2015. We hope that gas purchase terms will not be worse in a new contract starting in 2016. This will depend on further talks with Gazprom,» Butkevičius told BNS….(more)
