In the event of a major emergency involving chemical gases, radiation or hazardous smoke, sirens would sound, but now our phones will also raise the alarm.
The Danish Emergency Management Agency has started work on developing an app for smartphones and tablets that will provide warnings and alarms from its own organisation, the Danish Meteorological Institute, the police and others.
“The aim is to help citizens to act in what we consider to be the most appropriate manner,” Thomas Dybro Lundorf, information officer at the Danish Emergency Management Agency, told DR News.
The app will not replace the current systems of sirens and emergency media announcements, but will serve as a supplement.
Dybro expects the app, which will provide automatic warnings in real time, to be ready in the new year.
