One in five Lithuanians at risk of falling into poverty

lithuania povertySome 610,000 people in Lithuania, or 20.6 percent of the population, lived below the poverty risk line last year, 2 percentage points more compared with 2012, according to a survey of incomes and living conditions carried out by the country’s statistics office.

The at-risk-of-poverty income threshold last year was 811 litas (EUR 235) per month for a single person and 1,703 litas for a family of two adults and two children under 14 years,  Statistics Lithuania said on today. The percentage of the population with disposable incomes below this level was 15.1 percent in urban areas and 31.7 percent in rural areas.
