More and more orphans find new parents

adoptionThe Kaliningrad area is one of the four regions of Russia, where the fastest-orphaned children find a new family.

The number of orphans decreased in 2013 compared to the previous year by 20% . More and more such children are accommodated in foster care as a result of this trend, the number of orphans decreases in children’s homes . About 80 % of orphans have been adopted in the area.

On the initiative of Governor Nikolai Zukanow a new regional law has now also been adopted so that families with three or more foster children are entitled to the same social assistance as families with many children.

The regional Social Affairs Minister Angelika Meister: ” Any woman who expressed for example after the birth the desire to separate from her newborn, will automatically be in the field of view of social welfare. Together with doctors and social psychologists we do everything necessary to help such a mother in solving their problems and facilitate the way to the only correct decision - so she can take over the care of her biological child itself.”
