EU is just about to finish the budget for 2014-2020 and the Ministry of Regional Development has already announced that some 12.5 billion euro are ear-marked for Polish firms in that six year periode.
According to the ministry’s calculations, 7 billion euro will be funnelled towards regional programmes, and the remaining portion will be for national initiatives. The regional funds will be biased towards investments which focus on the strengths of a given region, and what is likely to be the driving force of that area’s economy.
Besides supporting investments, the regional funds are also intended to be expended on developing staff potential. Minister Elzbieta Bienkowska has confirmed that for national programmes, funds will primarily be spent on innovation. “The expenditure of companies on industrial research and development in Poland is at a very low level,” Bienkowska told the Rzeczpospolita daily.
“Due to this, in 2014-2020 far more European funds will be spent on cooperation between science and business, emphatically encouraging companies to invest in innovation”, she said.
