Russian military aircraft breach Finnish airspace

russian aircraftOver the course of the past week, Russian military aircraft have been spotted three times breaching Finnish airspace, as reported by the Finnish Defence Ministry.

Two days ago, Finnish airspace was breached by a Russian military transport aircraft. It happened above the Gulf of Finland, approximately 40 km away from Helsinki. Finnish army Hornet interceptor was dispatched in order to identify the intruder, as reported by lsm.lv.

Two previous air space breaches were noted this Saturday and Monday. Commenting on these events, the Finnish Defence Ministry expressed disbelief that these cases are mere coincidences.

Moscow has been requested to provide explanations. Finnish Air Force has decided to increase intensity of patrols. Military experts believe Russia’s activities can be explained with its aggressive strategy.

As previously reported, this Thursday, August 28th, NATO patrol ships spotted Russian military aircraft above neutral waters of the Baltic Sea near the Russian-Latvian border.

Two SU-27 and A-50 aircraft were spotted near Latvian borders.

Russian military aircraft have been an especially common sight near Latvia’s borders this summer. (more)
