Over 5,000 foreigners sent packing from St. Petersburg

russian visaIn a bid to crack down in visa violations, over 15,000 inspections were carried out in 2013 in the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. As a result of the inspections, 5,385 foreigners were found to be illegally living in the city, reported Interfax Wednesday.According to Elena Dunaeva, head of the Department of the Federal Migration Service, from this number, 5,133 have already left Russia; 2,900 left on their own accord whereas 2,200 had be deported, reported Interfax.Dunaeva added that last year approximately 55,000 migrants were also rejected entry into the region.The number of people found to be illegally living in the region has grown from 2012, where 3,330 foreigners were caught.
