Oil shale reserves sufficient in Estonia

Estonian energy company’s Eesti Energia Strategic Director Margus Vals in a newspaper Parnu Postimees denied statements that the oil shale reserves might run out, informs LETA.

As he said, at the moment one billion tons of oil shale was extracted, and there is still at least 4.5 billion tons of oil shale in Estonia. This amount of oil shale would be enough for approximately 60 years.

Oil shale is also used as a fuel – as crude oil is slowly running out, bigger attention is paid to using oil shale as fuel. Oil shale increase Estonian energy security – in contribution to oil shales, Estonia is the second country in Europe after Denmark with the biggest energy security.
